Dear Parents
Hot School Meals
The hot meals began on Monday of this week. It is early days but things are going really well. Don’t forget – if your child does want a meal it is fine to have it one day or another as long as you book it on the previous week’s Monday. You do not have to commit to a week or even to the same day each week. Do contact Sandy if you would like to book one even just to try it.
We are hoping to have a session with the providers so that parents can come in and taste the meals for themselves. We will advise you of dates later.
Easter Concert
Mr Duffin is preparing an Easter concert to begin at 1.30pm on Thursday 1 April (Maundy Thursday) in St Martin’s Church. It will be a little different this year so do try to come.
Jobs
We have vacancies coming up for two full time lunch time assistants or one full time and one part time. If you would be interested in either post, or know someone, please contact Sandy for more information on how to apply.
The Building Works
You can really see the change in the building this week now that the roof has been completed. Next week things will look even better as the scaffolding is coming down and the windows are to going in.
Bus Children
Please, please, please inform the school if your child is not going home on the bus. It should be as early in the day as possible. You may not be aware but we are involved in very careful safety procedures to ensure the right children get on the bus and things can become difficult or the bus runs late if parents, carers, friends turn up and we have to hold on to the bus to contact parents for consent to release the children to other adults.
Contact details
We have had problems recently contacting parents or carers. Please check that we have your correct telephone, mobile and/or work phone number - AND – that your phone is switched on.
Sickness
In accordance with school policy if your child has vomiting and/or diarrhoea they should be kept at home for a full 24 hours after the symptoms end. Children who are sent back too early pass the bug to other children and staff and we ask you to observe this for everyone’s sake. Thank you to the parents who do!
World Book Day
The children had a really great time and absolutely loved the author that visited us. Thank you for making the effort to dress children in costume and a big thank you to Mrs Bernardini for organising the day.
DASP Concert for Yr 3 and 4- 30th March
A separate letter is coming out today with details of the DASP concert- please check book bags thoroughly.
Open morning and parent consultations 18th March- reminder
Please make a date in your diary and book your appointment time if you haven’t already done so.
Kind regards
Ann Herridge

On Thursday 9th July 2009 we learned the fantastic news that we have been awarded the title of Rights Respecting School. This is a UNICEF project and one in which all DASP schools are taking part. Over many months, we have been undertaking activities in order to raise awareness of this important drive, both in our school and in the wider world. The assessor who visited was very impressed with all at Cheselbourne and we can now say we are a Level 1 Rights Respecting School! Well done to everyone!

We started our Healthy Schools Programme in 2003. Our objectives in the first year were to:
-
substantially increase the children’s active time outside the PE curriculum by including physical activity in daily lessons. Research has shown that active breaks enhance learning and we are proud to be among the first to have put national policy into practice
-
strengthen our PSHE and Citizenship schemes of work. A very satisfactory offshoot has been the establishment of an elected School Council
-
After being accredited as a healthy school in 2004, we continued the above and added two new objectives:
-
healthy eating; the children have their own water bottles, so that they have access to water throughout the day, and all children receive a free portion of fruit or vegetable every day at snack time. Children in Reception and Years 1 and 2 are funded under the government’s free fruit and vegetable scheme and the school itself funds Year 3 and 4 children
-
drugs education; in a first school like ours, this involves teaching children about keeping safe and about potential dangers and hazards. As part of this project, the children visited Streetwise and took part in a theatre workshop run by the Bournemouth Theatre in Education group
- In September 2007 we were again accredited as a Healthy School.
